Field Surveying Supervisor
Full-time Salary Position: 50 hours per week
FLSA: Exempt
Working Hours:
Monday-Friday 7:00 am – 5:00 pm
Hours subject to vary to meet needs
Report to Vice President
General Summary of the Position:
The Field Surveying Supervisor is responsible for scheduling and coordinating field survey crews, ensuring quality control of surveying activities, monitoring crews on job sites, serving as a mentor and knowledge resource for the team, maintaining and calibrating survey equipment, and interpreting construction drawings to facilitate accurate fieldwork. This role requires extensive surveying experience, strong leadership skills, and attention to detail to ensure field operations run efficiently and accurately.
Qualifications & Skills:
Extensive experience in land surveying, including field book and crew management.
Strong understanding of construction drawings, site plans, and survey methodologies.
Ability to oversee and assess field crew performance on job sites, ensuring accuracy and efficiency
Proficiency with survey equipment, including total stations, GPS, and data collection software.
Excellent Leadership, problem-solving and communication skills.
Ability to train and mentor team members in the best practice and technological advancements.
Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions for approximately 90% of the time.
Knowledge of industry regulations and safety standards.
- Experience with AutoCAD, GIS, or other survey-related software is a plus.
Essential Functions:
- Develop and manage weekly field crew schedules to optimize efficiency and resource allocation.
- Monitor field crews on job sites to ensure adherence to project requirements, safety protocols, and accuracy in data collection.
- Conduct quality control checks on field surveying crews to maintain high standards and compliance with industry’s best practices.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to survey team members to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot survey equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Read, interpret, and apply information from construction drawings and site plans for accurate surveying.
- Coordinate with project managers, clients, and other stakeholders to align field operations with project requirements.
- Implement and enforce safety protocols and company policies to maintain a secure work environment.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards in all surveying activities.
- Assist in training new employees and providing ongoing professional development opportunities.
- Capable of lifting and carrying 50 pounds
- Physically maneuver around construction sites, including accessing excavations, trenches, structures, and other disturbed areas.
Will have the responsibility of driving company vehicle truck on site and follow all safety protocol.
Client Interaction:
Receive and coordinate surveying requests from clients, effectively scheduling internal resources.
Act as a resource during the bidding process, ensuring execution within budget constraints.
Professionalism and Teamwork:
Represent the company professionally, fostering a collaborative atmosphere among coworkers, clients, and other trades.
Demonstrate self-starter qualities and initiative in improving company operations.
Safety and Compliance:
Comply with site safety requirements – OSHA and understand excavation standards.
Complete pre-job truck inspections, safety documentation, and ensure timely submission.
Maintain trucks and equipment to company standards.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform physical tasks associated with surveying work. Strenuous walking and lifting catch basin grates/manhole cover, hauling equipment. Capable of lifting and carrying 50 lbs. Physically maneuver around construction sites, including accessing excavations, trenches, structures and other disturbed areas.
Willingness to work in various weather conditions and environments
Preferred Experience:
5+ years of experience in land surveying or related field.
Prior experience in a supervisory or coordination role.
Valid appropriate state driver’s license (general operator license).
Certification on a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) is beneficial.
